LEHMANN – ARSENAL SHOULD NOT SIGN HART

Former Arsenal keeper Jen Lehmann has asked that the Premier League side not sign former Manchester City keeper Joe Hart.

Hart is currently on loan at Torino after coach Pep Guardiola deemed him excess to requirement at Etihad. There have been numerous reports claiming the keeper would return to England this summer.

The reports said Arsenal might sign the player. There have been reports as well linking first choice keeper at the Emirates Petr Cech with a move away from the club. When asked if Hart should be considered, Lehmann said: “No. I wouldn’t. Petr Cech is not too old. He’s maturing. Dropping him for the Bayern Munich game is a decision I don’t understand.”

Lehmann backed the keeper despite a dip in form. The ex-Gunner added that the club would need to spend money to acquire talent by Coach Arsene Wenger or another one.

“Who will be the guy who makes the big decision to spend money? This question needs to be answered ASAP. If there is a change in the summer, there will be pressure to spend and I think it will be late. If Arsene is going to sign a new contract, he needs to do it now,” Lehmann said.

Wenger went with David Ospina ahead of the Bayern game, claiming his performances helped the club get to where they are. Wenger’s choice of the number two was heavily criticized after they lost 5-1 to Bayern, jeopardizing the chance to make it to the quarterfinals – a feat that has eluded them for seven years running.

Ospina has been decent this term and he was not entirely at fault during the onslaught from the German champions. Many accused Wenger of allowing loyalty impede the overall success of the team.
