Arsenal manager Unai Emery has urged his team to show consistency in the forthcoming matches as they seek to make the push for the top four. The north London side are currently one point behind the Champions League positions but they can make ground with a friendlier fixture schedule when compared to their close rivals.
Speaking in a press conference, Emery spoke about the positivity brought about from the atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium which has contributed to their league form. However, the Spanish tactician urged his team to showcase the same level of performance on the road where they have managed just one league win since December.
He said: “I think we also to create a good feeling with our supporters, a good atmosphere here, giving them our energy, giving them our quality and both is very important. Quality and energy, and intensity and I want to develop with this capacity in our team. We are doing, I think here more than away from home, but consistency is my target with this team in this condition.”
Arsenal have been inconsistent with their league form since December but they have nonetheless managed to keep in touch with the top four. For the weekend, they are scheduled to entertain Southampton at the Emirates Stadium and a win could potentially propel them to the fourth position, should United drop points against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
“Meanwhile, the Gunners have a friendlier fixture list when compared “to United for the rest of the season but there remain question marks whether they can up their performance against mid-table teams on the road. Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers are among the clubs, who could pose a concern from outside the top six and it remains to be seen whether the players can live up to the challenge and end the club’s two-year drought “in the Champions League“.
Arsenal have another alternate route to the competition by winning the Europa League this term but the challenge remains a lot stiffer with Inter Milan, Napoli, Chelsea and Sevilla among the high-profile teams still vying for the title.
