Arsenal top goalie PetrCech is not pleased one bit with the team’s loss to Tottenham in the Premier League, particularly as their chances of getting a top four finish goes slim.
The loss leaves Arsene Wenger and the team in a tricky place as they might miss Europe’s top club football competition next year – a bragging right for the North London side. Goals from Dele Alli and Harry Kane sunk the Gunners as Spurs rise 17 points above their north London rivals. This would be the first time Spurs would finish ahead of Arsenal in two decades.
“I feel angry and disappointed because obviously this is not a game we wanted to lose and this is a very big disappointment for us. It hurts because it was a huge game for both teams. They needed to win to keep their title chances alive. We needed to win to keep our Champions League finishing position alive,” Cech said.
The former Blues shot stopper was disappointed that they lost the north London derby and that the club plunged to a new low. However, Cech said the team cares less about Spurs finishing above them this term.
“Our target is to play for titles, so we are disappointed with our season because we aren’t playing for a title….Tottenham finishing above us or doing better is one thing, but I think the most important thing for the club, for the players, for everybody is to reach your own targets, not worry about what the others are doing,” he added.
The Arsenal board may have a genuine reason now to send their long-time coach Wenger out. He has helped with seeing the club through a tough period, keeping them afloat and qualifying regularly for Champions League. But it seems the club needs a change to progress as retrogression has started.
