Didier Drogba is not going to sign for the Ligue 1 club Olympique De Marseille.
The striker himself ruled out the possibility of that in an interview to an Ivorian channel yesterday.
According to Drogba, Marseille has no ambition at this point in time and he can’t go to such a club. He likes working on some sort of project and he would not get that at Stade Velodrome.
Drogba had spent a solitary season in Marseille shirts in 2004-05 and had been quite successful there finding the net as many as 19 times.
He left for Chelsea thereafter where obviously he went on to do wonderful things and made his name as one of the best in the world.
But, it was that little burst at Marseille which had made people take notice of Drogba.
There had been news circling around that the 37-year old is planning to turn to that same place where his journey of becoming a superstar had started.
But, all that was put to rest by what Drogba said yesterday.
In the words of the legend, “I am someone who does not worry about cash at all. The only thing which is important for me is the ambition and that is not there as far as Marseille is concerned at the moment.”
“Quite a few of their biggest names have gone away recently and I think in the coming months, a few more exits might be on the cards.”
Marseille actually did not do badly in the French top tier in the previous season. They were at no. 4 in the table with 69 points when the season finished.
But, they are in a big financial mess presently and thus, are not able to hang on to the key players.
