José Mourinho says that he wants Petr Cech to remain at Chelsea beyond the season amidst rumours that he is set to leave the club.
He has not been a first choice player for the first time in 10 years after his position was taken over by Thibaut Courtois.Cech has featured in only 16 matches across all competitions this season. This is in sharp contrast to his previous seasons when he averaged more than 50 games across all competitions.Cech has been linked with a number of clubs both in the Premier League and abroad.
It is thought that Mourinho prefers seeingCech playing in a foreign country rather than in England for one of the Chelsea rivals. Yet, transfer rumours are pointing out that Manchester United and Arsenal remain firm favourites for the goalkeeper. The 32-year-old still has more than five years of top-level football left and this makes him an attractive proposition. Chelsea are reported to have placed a £15 million fee overCech and this could be made by any of the top English clubs. Aside from interest in England,Cech has also been linked with a move to Paris St Germain and Real Madrid.
Both clubs are in the search for a top goalkeeper andCech certainly fits the bill. "I keep saying I would like him to stay. In case he leaves, I have no preferences (where he goes). I hope he is fit to play the last game of the season,” said the Chelsea manager. Cech will be picking up his fourth Premier League title with Chelsea after the game against Sunderland. He has played the required number of matches to win a title. Mourinho has strongly hinted that Cech will be playing some part in the game against Sunderland, which would be his last in the Chelsea blue.
