West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice has heaped praise on Mason Mount, who has made a bright start to his Chelsea career. Mount had spent the past two seasons on loan with Vitesse and Derby County respectively and he has now been offered with the chance to impress for the Blues under manager Frank Lampard.
Speaking in a press conference, Rice said that he is pleased with the progress made by Mount with the Blues and believes the midfielder has the credentials to succeed with the club on a long-term basis, he told: “He’s pretty much immaculate. He’s playing the same way Lamps used to play. I am not surprised he is doing that for Chelsea and he is going to keep doing that there for years.”
The 20-year-old was one of the standout performers for the Blues during pre-season and that contributed towards his debut which came against Manchester United in the league opener. Though the Blues were beaten by a comfortable 4-0 score, Mount certainly caught the eye of the supporters after being instrumental towards the club’s attacking threat during the opening exchanges, where they were the better team.
Mount has since bagged a couple of league goals from the number 10 role and he appears certain to keep his starting spot when the Blues return from the international break. Chelsea’s slow start to the Premier League season sees them in the 11th spot with just five points accumulated from the opening four matches.
They are scheduled to face Wolverhampton Wanderers away from home this weekend and the game promises another tricky challenge. Nuno’s men managed to take four points off the Blues during the previous league campaign and Lampard needs a quick start from his players to restrict the Wolves from getting into their rhythm.
