Chelsea legends Petr Cech and Frank Lampard are back on the same team for the first time since January when Lampard was sacked as the Chelsea manager. The two former Chelsea players are part of the BBC line-up for the coverage of the ongoing Euro 2020 tournament but they won't cover the same game.
Petr Cech and Lampard shared the dressing room at Chelsea for several years winning several major trophies together including the Champions League title in 2012. Cech was the hero for Chelsea as he saved penalties in both extra time and during the shootout in the final against Bayern Munich to propel the Blues to their first title in the competition.
The two players were back at Chelsea after many years in different roles in the summer of 2019. Petr Cech returned to Chelsea as the performance and technical director after the end of a four-year playing career with London rivals Arsenal. He had left Chelsea to sign for the Gunners in 2015 for £10m after losing his place to Thibaut Courtois.
While Cech was made the technical director, Lampard became the new Chelsea manager as the replacement for Maurizio Sarri and he went on to lead the Blues to a fourth-placed finish in the league amidst the transfer ban before everything fell apart for him in the middle of his second season thereby leading to his sack. German manager Thomas Tuchel replaced Lampard as the Chelsea manager and he went on to lead the club to another Champions League title.
Earlier this year, the Telegraph reported that Petr Cech and Lampard had a strained relationship before the latter was sacked as the Blues boss though a source close to both Chelsea legends via the Daily Mail says the relationship between the two ex-Blues players remains amicable.
