The Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has said that he wants Chelsea to qualify as soon as possible from the Champions league group stages. Chelsea are currently competing in the group stages of the competition looking to progress to the last 16 stage.
They are currently the holders of the competition after having won the title last time around by beating Bayern Munich 4-3 on penalties. Even though the Chelsea goalkeeper reckons that it will be extremely tough for Chelsea to retain the competition because it has never been done before, he has said that getting out of the group stages as soon as possible will help them on their way.
Chelsea will be facing the Danish club FC Nordsjaelland in the second group match of the competition after having drawn the first match 2-2 against Juventus. The Chelsea manager Roberto di Matteo has visibly disappointed after the draw because Chelsea had thrown away a two-goal lead in the match. As a result, they are in a position where they must win the away match in order to remain in contention for the top spot. Chelsea have not won in Europe away from home for a long time and are searching for their first victory.
"At the start of every campaign it's important to get as many points as possible early on to qualify, then you can concentrate on the other games, that's the ideal situation. We will treat the game exactly the same as our last games. Whether it's a final or not, you have to be ready if you want to win matches. This is the Champions League, we take every opponent seriously. We want to win, that's clear, we've done our homework, and we have an idea," said Petr Cech ahead of the match with FC Nordsjaelland in Copenhagen.
