Ever since Petr Cech joined Chelsea in 2004, he has been a consistent performer for the Premier League club and the Czech has always standout by being the undisputed goalkeeper.
At his 31 years of age, he is still able to stand his ground and keep clean sheets against some of the best players not only in England but around the world. Cech still has a few more years left in him before he decides to retire or to change clubs but there already are potential replacements of players who could fill in the spot of the veteran goalkeeper and one of the top candidates is Thibaut Courtois.
According to ftbllr, Courtois is a 21 years old Belgium goalkeeper who is currently playing at Athletic Madrid on a loan deal with his parent club being Chelsea. The promising star has enjoyed impressive seasons with the Spanish club but there has been one performance that has turned all the attention to him and it was during Athletic Madrid’s Champions League match against Barcelona.
Shots from Messi, Busquets, Iniesta and the rest of Gerardo Martino’s squad were all denied by Courtois and the game ultimately concluded in a 1-1 draw which is a fairly good result for Athletic Madrid considering the fact that the match was played in Camp Nou.
The consistent series of top notch displays from Courtois has attracted the interest of Athletic Madrid as they want to sign the 21 years old goalkeeper on a permanent basis and not just on the loan deal which was agreed some time ago.
Even at his young age, Courtois is already being considered to be the successor of Petr Cech in Chelsea. The Belgium goalkeeper is even being compared among some of the best shot-stoppers in the world along with Gianluigi Buffon and Manuel Neuer.
