CECH PLAYS SECOND STRING

Once regarded as an untouchable in the Chelsea team, Petr Cech made only the second start of the season in the League Cup match against Shrewsbury Town.

The blues were expected to comfortably progress to the next round, but they were given a slight scare in the second half when the home team squad. There was nothing that the 32-year-old goalkeeper could do about this goal as it was a fine header. On all other occasions, Cech did extremely well when called upon. He was one of the big names in the starting line-up along with players like Oscar and John obi Mikel.

Rather than field a team full of youngsters, Jose Mourinho has been using the League Cup has an opportunity to give opportunities to players who have had little game time this campaign, and first timers. This includes Cech after he has found himself as the second choice at Chelsea after the arrival of Thibaut Courtois.

The Czech Republic international is widely expected to leave Stamford Bridge in January or in the summer in search of regular first-team football. He is unlikely to find shortage of takers as he is still considered as one of the best in the world. Mourinho praised Cech for his professionalism after the match.

"We knew that, we knew before [it was going to be difficult]. I think I had on my four players that played on Sunday and they were an unbelievable example for others. They were absolutely brilliant. When you have Petr Cech and Jon Mikel Obi not playing regularly, they come here and give great example of professionalism. I wasn't expecting anything but a difficult match. The game was going to be difficult. I was ready for extra-time," said Mourinho.

Cech is yet to make a start in the Premier League this season.
