Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that he will not be looking to persuade Petr Cech to stay at the club.
This will be a difficult proposition indeed given that the Czech Republic shot stopper is currently the number to goalkeeper at the club. After having been the first choice for almost a decade, the 32-year-old has not been happy with his constant place from the bench. He has been linked with several top clubs in the last six months and was widely expected to seal a move in January. This did not happen and the upcoming summer transfer window is seen as the final escape opportunity for the player.
After months of speculation,Cech finally admitted that he was not happy with the situation at Chelsea. Rather than play hardball over the player’s current contractual situation, it is believed that Chelsea are willing to let the player chose his next destination in recognition of his 11 years of top service.Cech has blossomed into one of the best goalkeepers in the world after making the move to Chelsea in 2004 as a player with tremendous potential. He has been replaced by Thibaut Courtois, who is regarded as the next big thing.Cech has featured in only four league matches so far.
“I don’t know what the club’s idea will be.It looks like it works well with me and Thibaut as a duo. But that can work for one season only. I don’t want another one like this. There always will be speculation. I leave it for the summer. It will be important to sit down with the club and with the manager to consider all the pros and cons. We will see what will work out the best,” said Cech. “I don’t waste my time trying to persuade him, because I know nobody can persuade him,” said Mourinho.
