PETR CECH WINS GOLDEN GLOVE AWARD IN FIRST SEASON WITH THE GUNNERS

Former Chelsea goal stopper, Petr Cech, has won the Premier League Golden Glove award in his first season at the emirates.

The goal keeper kept an amazing 16 clean sheets in the round of matches that makes up the EPL to lift the prize ahead of the hosts of other goal keepers.

His clean sheet in Arsenal’s 4-0 drubbing of relegated Aston Villa in the last EPL game, moved his total one ahead of Manchester United glovesman David De Gea. With United’s final fixture being postponed to Tuesday, it’s not yet known if Cech will win the award outright or be forced to share it with De Gea. The Red Devils goal keeper can’t pass Cech’s total but he can equal if he were to shutout Bournemouth on Tuesday if their final game is finally played, after a bomb scare at Old Trafford led to the postponement.

The closest contenders were title winning Leicester’s Kasper Schmeichel and Manchester City’s Joe Hart both kept 15 clean sheets. The four BPL shot-stoppers headed into the final round of fixtures in contention for the award, with Cech, De Gea, Kasper Schmeichel and Joe Hart all tied on 15 clean sheets each. Hart and Schmeichel fell out of the running as their sides could only manage score draws against Swansea City and Chelsea.

Arsenal's goalkeeper has scooped the prize on three previous occasions during his Chelsea days and will become the second four-time winner, after Joe Hart. Had Hart won it, he would have made an unprecedented record with the sky Blues since joining them. The Czech Republic international will also become the first BPL goalkeeper to win it with two different clubs.

The Gunners were quick to praise the Czech Republic international who will now head to Euro 2016 in France.
